Welcome To MidContinent Airlines!

About MidCon
Many things about simulated air carriers have changed since we first started virtual operations with ATP in the mid-1990's. The one thing that has not changed, however, is the focus MidContinent Airlines has on operational realism. As the virtual aviation industry evolves, we will continually review our commitments to you, and the procedures we have in place. Our objective is to provide the best possible flight experience to ensure MidContinent Airlines will be your simulated air carrier of choice.

History and Background
MidContinent was, at one point, a real airline (in the 1930's, until it was acquired by Braniff), and it has been a succesful virtual airline before. Today's MidContinent Airlines is a product of the merger between America West Virtual Airlines and US Airways. The route structure closely resembles our real world counterparts. Our goal at MidContinent is to provide the virtual pilot an accurate and realistic airline experience.

Pilot Requirements

At MidCon we take great pride in having the most realistic flight operations in the virtual airline community. We make this claim based on our efforts to follow real world airline operations procedures as closely as possible in the following ways :

FAR Part 121 Compliance

All MidCon flight operations are conducted under the rules set out by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) that regulate commercial air carriers in the United States.
Dispatched Flights
Flight releases are as 'real as it gets'; commercial airline flights do not operate without a flight release generated by a federally-licensed airline Dispatcher. Our flight releases are not merely planned routes - they are tailored to suit real-time weather conditions, include detailed fuel planning, and often include MELs - maintenance issue than can create new and different performance limitations for your flights. All flights are Dispatcher-released and are followed based on the availability of a Dispatcher. The MidCon ACARS system (VAFS3) allows real-time weather reporting, submission of pilot reports (PiReps) real-time flight following and 2-way text messaging with Dispatch.

Realistic Fleet Selection and Pilot Type Ratings

Our database contains each aircraft operated by our parent airlines at the time of our merger. We maintain this operationally-realistic aircraft set, and the principles that govern rational fleet selection in the real world are used to guide all of our fleet-related decisions. Our pilots operate a single aircraft type after gaining a type rating through our checkride procedure.

CAT II/III, ETOPS Certifications

Pilots have to meet certain requirements and certifications to be able to fly for MidCon and may be required to hold various real-world certifications in order to participate in some operations. Extensive training programs, manuals and online flying lessons are available for pilots to meet these requirments

We look forward to flying with you!!
